Read: I am NOT a wig stylist. I can barely get my real hair to do anything!
I am putting this out here to inspire others also trying to accomplish their cosplay hair dreams with a lower budget.

Anna's Coronation Updo 1.0My first Anna updo wig was originally a braided Anna wig from the Halloween section at WalMart. The braid came off of a child sized Anna updo wig from Disney Parks and was glued onto a headband to connect with the other wig that fit my head.
There isn't a lot of complexity to this first wig: I unbraided the neon orange wig, brushed it into a bun, and added the braided headband. But to a young, beginner cosplayer, this was everything I wanted at the time. I have since sent this wig to Goodwill and I hope it found someone who loves it. |

Anna's Coronation Updo 2.0My second Anna updo wig was originally styled correctly and sold on Amazon for $10 and would have been wonderful if it fit. Well, this wig did not cover my whole head and came to me styled with HOT GLUE!!! So I decided to undo the bun, brush out the glue (this took a total of about 3 hours), and restyle it myself. I never would have guessed the wig would be this long and so nice! Like a certain someone's Christmas tree, it just needed a little love.
Many bobby pins and cans of hairspray later..... |
Queen Anna's updo 1.0In theory, the actual style doesn't seem complicated: a twist across the top and a braid pinned into a bun. I can get the hair into the style, but the problem is getting the hair to stay put!!! I unbraided one of my F2 wigs to restyle into the queen's updo for a photoshoot and it lasted...for that one afternoon. I've since left this particular wig unbraided since then and have worn it mostly for MJ.

Queen Anna's updo 2.0
The base wig is the pre-styled Queen Anna from Doki Doki Cosplay, which was beautiful but slightly too small on my head, which was the exact issue I had with the pre-styled coronation wig I bought for $10 on Amazon...
After much trial and error, I took note of what worked with my main coronation updo that I styled myself:
So I bought the twist braid headband from Fairytale Wigs and the day was saved.

I completely understand why the gorgeous styled wigs I see for sale cost hundreds of dollars.
